Pizza chain Papa John's International Inc (PZZA.O) said on Wednesday its founder and former chief executive, John Schnatter, resigned as chairman of the board.

The company said Olivia Kirtley would act as lead independent director, and added it would appoint a new chairman in the coming weeks.

The resignation comes after Forbes reported earlier in the day that Schnatter used a racial slur on a conference call.

"Papa John's condemns racism and any insensitive language, no matter the situation or setting ... We take great pride in the diversity of the Papa John's family, though diversity and inclusion is an area we will continue to strive to do better," the company said in a separate statement.

Schnatter, who founded the company in 1984, resigned as chief executive in December last year, after drawing criticism for comments he made at the National Football League (NFL) leadership.

Yum Brands Inc's (YUM.N) Pizza Hut replaced Papa John's as NFL's sponsor in February, ending Papa John's eight-year relationship with the top U.S. football league.

Papa John's shares closed nearly 5 percent down at $48.33 on Wednesday.

The singer, 24, and the model, 21, got engaged on Saturday evening in the Bahamas during dinner at a local restaurant, according to TMZ which was the first to report the news.

"It's kind of a surprise, but kind of not. Justin has been extremely happy these past few weeks," a source tells PEOPLE. "He has known Hailey for a long time. This might seem sudden, but they know each other very well."

Hailey's actor dad Stephen Baldwin congratulated his daughter and her new fiancé on Twitter, writing, "Sweet smile on my face! me&wife (Kennya) Always pray 4 Gods will !! He is moving in the hearts of JB&HB Let's all pray for His will to be done Love you 2 so much !!! #Godstiming #bestisyettocome Congrats @JeremyBieber @pattiemallette #PraiseJesus."

Bieber's father Jeremy, who wed in Jamaica in February, hinted at the engagement news on Instagram Sunday, writing, "@justinbieber Proud is an understatement! Excited for the next chapter!"

And Bieber's mother Pattie Mallette also referenced her son's engagement on Twitter Sunday, writing, "Love Love Love Love Love Love Love."

Locals spotted Bieber and Baldwin dancing at a restaurant on Friday, and the next day the couple was spotted packing on the PDA on early Saturday afternoon.

The Week After X

One week ago the world was shaken by the murder of hip hop artist XXXtentacion also known as, Janseh Onfroy. XXXtentacion, who also went by the stage names of X, XXX or triple X, was just beginning to establish himself in the hip hop industry, until his life was cut short.

Last week Monday Onfroy was in the act of leaving a motorcycle dealership, when two African-American males, both wearing black hoodies ran up to the car Onfroy was in and shot the rapper to death. Witnesses say the shooter was wearing a red mask. The suspects were also said to have pulled up to the scene driving a black Dodge Journey. 

If I die. I want to know that the kids were able to take my message, and turn it into something positive.

One Week Later: XXX's music is still topping charts, but this time even better than when he was alive. The Florida rapper's albums, ? and 17 have taken the number 1 and 2 spot on both Apple Music and Amazon. His singles "Sad" and "Changes" are both in the top 5 of the Itune's charts. Sad being 1, and changes 5.

On Wednesday night, Broadway County Sheriff's arrested 22 year old Derrick D Williams as a suspect to the murder. Williams was arrested on several charges: first degree murder, probation violation, and driving without a valid license. There is still no detail on what exactly makes him a suspect. 

The once Sound Cloud rapper, and later national music sensation, left his fans with a variety of healing remedies through his lyrics. His fans compare him to the late Tupac Shakur who was murdered in 1995. Both artists had the ability to lead, guide and help paint a brighter picture. Tupac had a gift to influence the black community, and XXXtentacion had the ability to aid the millions around the world suffering from depression
